AN ACTIVE INTRODUCTION TO YOGA AND MEDITATION FOR STRESS REDUCTION

Karen Coupland is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, and has been practicing yoga for 17 years and teaching for 11 years. She runs her yoga studio on the west side of Ann Arbor, Harmony Yoga.
David Coupland is currently a high school teacher of Physics at Skyline High School. He has had a meditation practice for the last 20 years and has taught meditation through Deep Spring Center of Ann Arbor and the Rec and Ed Department.
Various studies have shown that the practice of yoga and meditation can help children with ADHD develop greater attention and self-control, improve self-esteem, and reduce depression, anger, and anxiety.
We will be presenting a simple yoga and meditation session that all can participate in, and we'll talk about how these two practices can help children and adults develop better concentration by learning to pay attention to the body, the breath, and the activities of the mind. The practices can help us reduce stress, and can give us a sense of feeling refreshed and focused.
